Halloween in Salt Lake City this year
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and Salt Lake City makes the most of it. The city has the deepest Halloween calendar in the state for grown-ups, from ballet and live orchestras to costume parties and club shows, and there's plenty for kids too: the zoo lights up after dark, and the libraries, museums and rec centers fill the last two weeks of October with free family nights.
Go Do pulls every one of these from the calendars of the theaters, venues, libraries, museums and community centers that run them, and checks them daily so our picks stay as current as possible. Each pick below links to its full details, a map, the weather forecast, and restaurants and hotels nearby.
We start with a few tips, then the haunts and farms, family events, shows, live music and parties, ghost hunts, and Day of the Dead. The full list of all 89 Salt Lake City Halloween events sits below the guide. Enjoy, and have a happy and safe Halloween!
How to plan your night downtown
Do the shows and haunts early if you can. Halloween weekend packs in the most, from trick-or-treating at the zoo to the big Saturday-night parties, so a weeknight is a great time for Fear Factory or a show. When tickets are sold online, buying ahead is the easiest way to get the night you want.
Give yourself time to park. Downtown garages fill up on show nights, so leave a little early, or take TRAX to the Capitol Theatre and Abravanel Hall and skip parking altogether. Every listing shows restaurants nearby if you want dinner before the show.
Dress warm. Late October evenings in the valley get chilly fast, and the zoo, the farms and the downtown trick-or-treats are all outside.
Haunted houses, corn mazes and pumpkins in the city
One big haunt and one working ranch right inside the city: Fear Factory for the scares, and Cross E Ranch for a corn maze, pumpkins and pig races. Check them out below.
Fear Factory
Now through Sun, Nov 1 · Fear Factory, Salt Lake City
Six buildings up to six stories high, with two underground passages, on the west side of downtown. It's Salt Lake's big haunt, and it stays open through the first of November, so there's time to fit it in after the Halloween rush.
