How Go Do reads public event calendars

Go Do lists everything to do in Utah in one free app, with a link back to the organizer for tickets and details. To keep it complete, a small program called GoDoBot reads public event calendars — venues, cities, libraries, parks, schools and organizers.

How it behaves

• Once a day. GoDoBot visits early each morning (Utah time) and reads only public event listings.
• A few seconds between requests. It asks your site for one page at a time, at least 3 seconds apart, and never two at once.
• It follows robots.txt and Crawl-delay. To keep GoDoBot out of all or part of your site, add a rule for User-agent: GoDoBot (or *). To slow it down further, add a Crawl-delay (in seconds).
• It asks before downloading again. When your server supports it, GoDoBot asks whether a page has changed since yesterday and skips it if not.
• It identifies itself honestly as GoDoBot with a link to this page. It never pretends to be a browser and never tries to get around a block. If your site turns it away, it stops visiting and checks again about once a week.
• Its requests are signed. So you can be sure a visit really came from Go Do, GoDoBot signs its requests with Web Bot Auth (HTTP Message Signatures, RFC 9421). Each request carries Signature, Signature-Input and Signature-Agent: "https://mcp.go-do.live" headers, and GoDoBot's public key is listed at mcp.go-do.live/.well-known/http-message-signatures-directory. Its user agent is GoDoBot/0.2 (+https://go-do.live/bot; event discovery for Utah).
• Each event on Go Do links back to your page, so people buy tickets and get details from you. Those links are tagged utm_source=go-do.live, so you can see the visitors Go Do sends you in your own analytics.
